The new US government and its impact
With the official oath of office on January 20, Donald Trump returns to the White House as the 47th president. While some are looking forward to his second presidency with hope for a recovery of the US economy, Trump’s America First agenda in particular is fueling global discussions about international cooperation. What significance will the future Trump administration have for the US political system and for the transatlantic relationship?
Over the next few months, we will be welcoming various US experts to the DAI Heidelberg: on Thursday, January 16, at 8 p.m., political scientist Stephan Bierlingwill analyze why the US political system seems to be functioning less and less and why the division of US citizens continues to grow.
On Monday, January 20, at 8 p.m., former US Ambassador Emily Haber and Steven Sokol, President and CEO of the American Council on Germany, will assess the potential direction of security and economic policy under Donald Trump in an international context and discuss what Germany and Europe need to prepare for.
