Children love stories. This is what the International Children’s Book Festival wants to celebrate and promote! The goal is to bring children of diverse nationalities together to experience that books and stories can help us create home wherever we are. They can be a tent we pitch wherever we go!
The International Children’s Book Festival pitches many tents – for children from Heidelberg and the region, for children from Ukraine and from all over the world. A big celebration of language magic, lots of book people, a variety of event formats.
Launched in 2022, the International Children’s Book Festival takes place annually. There are readings in several languages, poetry parties, story writing, concerts, crafts, art and philosophy for children of different ages – welcome to the realm of words!

Our aim of the festival is to reach a particularly large number of children. Where better to do that than at school! In addition to the public program of the festival, we therefore offer a separate school program, which classes in the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region can attend. Places of reading
The wing chair in your favorite library, the shady spot in the garden, or the hammock on the beach under palm trees – everyone’s favorite place to read is different. For the International Children’s Book Festival, we have found new places to read at the DAI. Some of our events take place in the library, in the Great Hall or in the basement. Our signage will help you find the right place for your event. Fun Fact: Our exhibition The Walk-in Book even snakes its way from bottom to top throughout the DAI to accompany you everywhere in the building via book.
