Accessibility on our website

Accessibility statement

The DAI Heidelberg strives to design its website in such a way that as many people as possible – regardless of physical or technical limitations – have access to our digital content. This is based on the requirements of the Barrier-free Information Technology Ordinance (BITV 2.0) and the international standards of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.1) at conformity level AA.

Much of the content on our website is already structured in such a way that it can be used without barriers. In the design, we pay attention to a clear structure, comprehensible navigation and the use of technical standards that also enable use with aids such as screen readers or alternative input methods.

However, we are aware that not all pages and functions are yet completely barrier-free. We are constantly working to identify and remove existing barriers. Our aim is to provide all visitors with unrestricted access to the DAI’s information and services.

Color contrasts and visual design

We are aware that individual areas of our website do not always meet the recommended contrast ratios for barrier-free reading. This applies in particular to certain color and background combinations that are part of our visual appearance. As these design elements are closely linked to the DAI’s corporate design, it is currently only possible to implement corresponding adjustments to a limited extent.

However, we regularly check how we can further improve the readability and accessibility of our content despite these design constraints – for example through alternative forms of presentation or additional design solutions.

Event search with Algolia

We use the search and filter tool Algolia to display and search our event program. This plugin enables a fast and dynamic display of content, but does not meet the requirements for barrier-free use in all areas. In particular, keyboard navigation and compatibility with screen readers can lead to restrictions over which we as the integrator have only limited influence.

We are closely monitoring the further development of the tool and are constantly checking how we can improve accessibility in this area or create alternative access options.

PDF documents on our website

Some of the PDF files published on our website do not yet fully comply with the requirements for accessible documents. Some of this content was created before the introduction of corresponding guidelines. In future, we will pay more attention to making new documents as accessible as possible – through sensible structuring, the use of suitable tags and alternative formats. Existing files should be gradually revised or replaced where possible.
