Covid Updates: Please note we’ve developed these online workshops to support distance learning. US Topics is typically offered in person here in the DAI Library as a 3 hour workshop.
Once restrictions lift and it is safe to reconvene in person, we look forward to hosting US Topics in the library again. In addition, our native English speakers can visit your school on request. We are happy to respond to your topic requests and put together an individual package for you. The costs differ and are made up of the duration of the workshop (at least 2 school hours) and the distance between the school and our location in Heidelberg.
NEW: Our digital workshop “The DIVIDED States of America”
Due to the Corona pandemic, workshops at DAI and at your school are currently very limited. We are very pleased to be able to offer you an interactive PowerPoint presentation with video and audio files with our digital workshop for high school students. Ideal for your distance learning as well! Request by e-mail now!
You can work on the presentations individually created by our teachers together with your class in class. Group work as well as open discussions still have a large part in this. In addition to the link to the presentation, as a teacher you will receive a Guide to the Presentation, on which answer options or examples are given and which will guide you through the presentation. Using the Feedback Tool, you and your students will have the opportunity to submit questions and ideas in writing to the respective teacher and receive feedback. Extending the workshops to include a digital Q&A session with our teacher is also possible.
We look forward to receiving your request by e-mail!
Content & Workshop Outline:
The political thriller of the year has ended smoothly, as many see it. Joe Biden is the new president of the USA. However, Donald Trump, with 47.3%, has also been able to rally almost half of the Americans eligible to vote behind him. This shows vividly how strong the division of the USA actually is.
We cover in detail:
- Election Recap
- Maps, Congressional Races, Exit Polls
- Polarization in the US
- Populism
- In the US, Abroad
- Group Work
- Photo Analysis, Interpretation
- Bonus Discussion
In addition, the content is conveyed with graphics and audio files. Also in our digital workshop, interactivity and group work are the most important pillars.
Venue: Available digitally via correspondence course or at your school
Duration: ca. 90 Minutes
Costs: 2 € per student, minimum amount 40 €
