Julian Nida-Rümelin
- What constitutes democracy
- And how it is emerging from the crisis
- Lecture
At a time when democracy as a form of government and society is under threat worldwide, Julian Nida-Rümelin offers guidance. He tackles popular misconceptions about democracy – and criticizes the various forms of populism, from both the right and the left. His appeal is clear: democracy is one of the highest goods of our culture – but it must be defended. Indulgence only strengthens those who despise liberal openness and cultural tolerance. Nida-Rümelin refers to great philosophers – Aristotle, Hobbes, Kant – and shows what we can learn from their insights today.
Prof. Dr. Julian Nida-Rümelin was Minister of State for Culture and Chair of Philosophy and Political Theory at LMU Munich. He is currently an honorary professor at Humboldt University and founding rector of the Humanistische Hochschule Berlin.
