Shaireen Rasheed
- Belonging and Becoming
- Early Relational Experiences and the Promise of Anti-Racist Education
- Lecture
Based on her research on anti-racism, inclusion, right-wing populism, intercultural dialog, gender and Islamophobia, Shaireen Rasheed develops a comparative perspective between Germany and the USA and asks: How does belonging come about – and how can education strengthen it? In doing so, she combines pedagogy critical of racism with questions about attachment, belonging and democratic identity. She shows how early relationship and educational experiences shape our understanding of “us” and “the others” – and what impulses an education that is sensitive to discrimination and close to attachment can provide.
Shaireen Rasheed, PhD, is a professor of philosophy specializing in race and social justice. She researches and teaches on anti-racist pedagogy, belonging and social participation and is a visiting professor at the PH Heidelberg.

In the series Roots & Wings – Impulses from Psychology & Pedagogy for an Attachment-Based Education
This new series of events shows how early experiences in childhood have a lasting influence on our future feelings, thoughts and actions: in relationships, in our attitude towards other people and in the upbringing of our children. In this series, scientists illustrate how old patterns continue to have an effect – and give parents and educators valuable ideas on how to break through them and adapt to the changing demands of today’s world.
