- Do we have the Right to be Offended?
- Two models of freedom of expression
- Lecture
Eva Illouz examines the current conflicts surrounding freedom of expression and moral sensitivity. From a sociological perspective, she examines two competing models of free speech: one that defends free speech as a central democratic principle, and one that emphasizes protection from harm and exclusion. She asks how liberal societies deal with these tensions and what this means for public debate and our coexistence.
Prof. Dr. Eva Illouz researches and teaches at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem on emotions, capitalism, culture, communication, and cultural aspects of their intersections. In 2018, she was awarded the EMET Prize for Sociology.
