Not least since the confrontations in early 2020, the situation between the US and Iran is more tense than ever. Will the situation calm down again with Joe Biden as American president or even escalate further?

Dr. Wilfried Buchta provides an outlook on what developments can be expected in the nuclear conflict and what steps are needed from both sides to initiate a progressive de-escalation.

After the USA under Donald Trump forced the withdrawal from the nuclear agreement and the reintroduction of economic sanctions against Iran, the development under Joe Biden is essential for the relations between the two states and consequently also for the global security structure.

Can the nuclear conflict ease in the future?

Wilfried Buchta, who holds a doctorate in Islamic Studies, was the Konrad Adenauer Foundation’s country representative for Morocco from 1998 to 2001. From 2001 to 2002, he was project director of the Middle East Program of the International Crisis Group in Amman, Jordan, and from 2005 to 2011, he was an analyst for the UN mission in Iraq. Today he lives in Berlin as a political consultant and publicist.
