Lea Ypi
- Indignity
- A Life Reimagined
- Geist Heidelberg, In dialogue
In her new work, *Indignity* (2025), Lea Ypi delves into her family’s past and intertwines personal memories with the major political and social upheavals of the 20th century. The unexpected discovery of a photograph takes her back to her grandparents’ era, to the traditions of the Ottoman Empire: from the emergence of new nation-states in the Balkans to the fascist occupation and communist rule in Albania. This search for clues opens up a historical panorama for Ypi, which she weaves together with philosophical reflection. The result is a portrait of life in times of radical change that is as intimate as it is far-reaching. An evening exploring the power of storytelling and the search for the truth about the people we think we know best.
Prof. Dr. Lea Ypi is one of today’s most prominent political writers. Born in Albania, the political scientist now teaches political theory at the London School of Economics. Her autobiographical work *Free* became a global bestseller, translated into 35 languages.
