Heidelberg’s Rhein-Neckar Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) with the DAI will jointly sponsor the 25th annual international commemoration of the birthday of Dr.
Martin Luther King, Jr., on Saturday, 22 January 2011.
A special feature this year will be panel discussions to bring people closer to an understanding of Reverend King and the relevance both yesterday and today for social transformation.
The first panel discussion will be held on the day before the main program, on Friday 21 January. The second panel/workshop will be on Sunday, 23 January.
The Friday panel discussion will be held at the DAI at 6 p.m. on Friday, 21 January. The topic for the panel of US and German religious leaders and scholars will be within the framework of the contest between religious tradition of Western mission and zeal in the quest for social transformation. The theme will be “Dr. King, Race, Poverty, and Social Transformation in God’s Own Country”
Members of the panel will be Prof. Heinrich Grosse, Prof. Gary Selby, Prof. Robert Jewett, Prof. Fletcher Du Bois, Chaplain Dr. Khallid M. Shabazz and Reverend Jennifer Adams-Massmann.
Moderator of the panel will be former German Parliamentarian Angelika Köster-Lössack.
