Musical Sunday

  • Mozart, string quintets
  • Marcus Imbsweiler & Timo Jouko Herrmann
  • In dialogue, Literature

After an initial attempt in the 1770s, Mozart only turned more intensively to the still young genre of the string quintet in the late phase of his career. The demanding late works represented a high point in the chamber music oeuvre of Viennese Classicism and were exemplary for many later quintet compositions from Schubert to Brahms. In these compositions, life-affirming strength and oppressive melancholy are juxtaposed with contrapuntal artistry and folk melodies.

Two music enthusiasts immerse themselves in the works with the audience in a deep and at the same time lively way: Marcus Imbsweiler publishes novels, including stories about composers. Timo Jouko Herrmann is a composer, violinist and guest conductor of the Heidelberg Symphony Orchestra.
