We are facing a digital political tour de force: New laws are to ensure more transparency and due diligence in the world of online giants and make big platforms like Facebook, YouTube and Co. more accountable in the future. Illegal content and hate on the Internet should be quickly identified and blocked.
But who is to enforce the new regulations? Who is to monitor compliance with the rules? And who will regulate the monitors?
How justified are the fears of the free discretion of corporations on the one hand and overregulation on the other? Where does digital responsibility end and the restriction of freedom of expression begin?
