Director: Manfred Noa, Germany 1922, 120 min

Gotthold Ephraim Lessing published his dramatic poem in 1779 as a direct reaction to attacks from orthodox religious pastors to which he was exposed as the editor of a work by Samuel Reimarus that was critical of religion.
He set his story in Jerusalem at the time of the Crusades, where Christians, Jews and Muslims came into direct conflict. The film version of the material in six acts from 1922 was long considered lost and was broadcast for the first time on TV by arte in 2010.

Musical accompaniment: Friedwart Goebels (piano), Abdalhade Deb (oud/vocals)
