Mon, 9 December 2019, 20:00 hrs The professor and researcher for geochemistry and physics at the University of Colorado Boulder deals with the topic and the assumption that certain life forms possibly already existed 4.4 billion years ago. He and his team are investigating craters for the Moon, Mars and Mercury, simulating the consequences of asteroid impacts of varying severity and finding that at that time only a maximum of 37 percent of the Earth’s surface was sterilised. Heat-loving bacteria were thus able to thrive in the resulting fissures in the earth at 80 to 110 degrees Celsius. So is life on earth actually older than previously assumed? Details of the event can be found here.
