- The audacity of hope
- Max von Sponeck
- Social Activity
Normalcy bias means that we humans like to carry on as we always have, even in the face of impending disasters. We have to break through this mechanism if we want to get into action mode. On the other hand, it can be paralyzing to look reality in the eye. For many people, hope for success is a prerequisite for rolling up their sleeves and making an effort for a better world. Accordingly, in the Pandora myth, hope is left behind in the “box” after all the evils have escaped and haunted the world.
In this series, topics that are currently of particular concern to our society will be examined in a relaxed atmosphere. Based on a current text, we will discuss these issues and look to philosophy for inspiration and perhaps even answers.
Dr. Max von Sponeck is a lecturer at the Department of Philosophy at the University of Heidelberg and at the Heidelberg University of Education. He specializes in the contemporary philosophy of mind.
