Star Walk No. 4 Through space and time at the speed of light
- Carsten Dolbert
- An evening hike with lecture elements
- Social Activity
Time and space – what appear to us in our everyday lives as fundamentally different dimensions are, as we have known since Einstein’s theory of relativity, bizarrely and inextricably intertwined.
Let’s imagine ourselves in the distant future of light-fast package tours and book a return ticket to the edge of the universe! On this Star Walk, we will find out what relativistic adventures we would experience, why the extra charge for a window seat in the rocket is not worth it, why we should fly around black holes and why we should take a few books, spit bags and all our friends and relatives with us on our journey instead of a camera.
We end our hike through the evening forest with the realization of why the concept of space-time is of fundamental importance not only for current and future space travel, but also for our understanding of the universe itself. And thus – not least – for our human existence.
