Science Hikes: Petrified time: a journey through the history of the earth, evolution and humanity
- Carsten Dolbert
- An evening hike with lecture elements
- Social Activity
We walk through the geological eras along rocks from the Paleozoic basement, the red sandstone layers of the dry and hot Mesozoic era and deposits of glacial loess. Against the picturesque backdrop of the Heidelberg Neckar Valley, we learn about the geological forces that have shaped our earth into the form it has today. We also learn how evolution produced the flora and fauna we have today, as well as us humans. Measured in geological terms, it was only recently that sabre-toothed tigers and rhinoceroses roamed the subtropical Rhine plain. Finally, participants will learn why it might be advisable to leave their descendants a small allotment on a local vineyard.
Carsten Dolbert is a geoscientist by training. He works as a project coordinator, has trained as a systemic consultant and therapist and has been a volunteer in international disaster relief for many years.
