- How the terror in Hanau changed my life forever
- Literature
Hanau, February 19, 2020: A right-wing extremist shoots nine people at several crime scenes for racist motives, others are seriously injured. Among them were 23-year-old Said Etris Hashemi and his 21-year-old brother Said Nesar as well as other friends. Etris is hit in the neck and barely survives. His brother dies on the spot, all help comes too late. A few seconds that change everything – not only in the lives of those affected, but for society as a whole. Hanau triggers an important debate about discrimination and right-wing terror.
Etris’ story is probably the most personal account from the survivor of an attack that changed Germany forever.
Said Etris Hashemi, born on 01.09.1996, is the son of Afghan refugees. Said Etris was directly affected by the right-wing extremist terrorist attack in Hanau on February 19, 2020. He lost his younger brother Said Nesar and many of his childhood friends in the attack. He himself survived the racially motivated attack with several gunshot wounds, including to his neck, and was only seriously injured. Since then, he has become an ambassador for more justice in this country, actively using his voice and campaigning against racism and discrimination.
