Rock Poetry – Krautrock

  • In dialogue, Literature

Many rock songs are actually “settings” of great poetic lyrics. The awarding of the Nobel Prize for Literature to Bob Dylan in 2017 made that official. We’re dedicating our new series to this special form of literature. In loose succession, we present important rock and pop poets and devote ourselves intensively to their lyrics – including music recordings, of course!

After the successful discussions about Bob Dylan and David Bowie, we now continue with the world of Krautrock. Bands like Kraftwerk, CAN or Rio Reiser with Ton Steine Scherben shaped the music genre of the late 1960s and early 1970s with their experimental, improvisational underground music. Sometimes electronic, sometimes psychedelic, sometimes hard rock, it is still passionately revered today.

Prof. Udo Dahmen, director of the Pop Academy Mannheim, and Juergen Boos, director of the Frankfurt Book Fair, talk about Krautrock.
