Ira Peter & Inna Hartwich

  • Between Russia and Germany
  • Voices from the past and present
  • In dialogue

Two voices, two perspectives – on origin, memory and identity: Ira Peter talks about the experiences of Russian-German (late) repatriates and asks what “German enough” means. Inna Hartwich looks at Russia today – a country caught between memory, war and reality. Together they engage in a dialog about home, loss and storytelling as a path to understanding.

Ira Peter is a freelance journalist and author. She writes about migration and identity in the field of tension between Germany and the post-Soviet space. In 2025 she published Deutsch genug? Why we finally need to talk about Russian-Germans. She hosts the podcast Trümmer & Träume. Civil Society for Ukraine by the evz.

Inna Hartwich lived in Moscow as a correspondent until fall 2025. She has received several awards for her reports and essays on Russia. In her book Frieda’s Grandchildren. My Family and the Legacy of Violence in Russia (2023), she explores her own family history.
