Half an Hour with…

  • Peter Rough

Online conversation with Peter Rough, Senior Fellow and Director of the Center on Europe and Eurasia at the Hudson Institute, New York. US military action in Iran, a possible change of course in Ukraine policy, Washington’s military intervention in Venezuela’s state apparatus, negotiations on the future of Greenland and NATO – the US foreign policy agenda is fuller and more consequential than it has been for years. The decisions made in Washington shape global realities: they determine how wars begin and end, how alliances are strained. What is behind these developments? What strategy – or what vision – is currently driving American foreign policy?

Peter Rough is Senior Fellow and Director of the Center on Europe and Eurasia at the Hudson Institute. He writes and comments on U.S. foreign policy, regularly advises official delegations, media representatives and business leaders, and organizes several confidential Track 1.5 dialogues between government representatives. Peter Rough worked as a research director in the office of George W. Bush, where he contributed to his memoir Decision Points. From 2007 to 2009, he was Deputy Director of the White House Office of Strategic Initiatives. He has also worked for USAID and as a consultant for the U.S. Army Special Operations Command.
