Dirk Neubauer

  • Save Democracy - An overdue polemic
  • Lecture

A mayor from Saxony finds: Democracy no longer reaches the people. Dirk Neubauer wants to change that. His way out of the crisis is to turn the system upside down, radically break up the hierarchy of federal, state, district and local governments, question the role of political parties and decide everything that can be done locally – through the direct participation of citizens. He and his city have proven that this is possible.

Journalist Dirk Neubauer has been mayor of the small Saxon town of Augustusburg since 2013, is running for district administrator in 2022, and is the author of Das Problem sind Wir (2019) and Rettet die Demokratie (2021).
