  • Ludwig van Beethoven: Symphony No. 6 in F major, op. 68, "Pastoral
  • Timo Jouko Herrmann & Marcus Imbsweiler
  • Concert, Literature

Musical depictions of nature have enjoyed great popularity in concert halls since the Baroque era. With his Symphony No. 6 in F major, op. 68, Ludwig van Beethoven thus joined a line of tradition that had already existed for some time. Formally, however, he moved along unconventional paths in the conception of the so-called “Pastorale”. Although the nature lover Beethoven wanted to evoke pleasant “memories of country life” with this work, this composition was not intended to be superficially descriptive, but rather to stimulate the audience’s imagination and in this sense to be “more an expression of feeling than painting”.

Herrmann and Imbsweiler are joined by two enthusiasts: Timo Jouko Herrmann, composer, violinist and guest conductor of the Heidelberger Sinfoniker, and Marcus Imbsweiler, writer and musicologist.
