For many years Geertje Potash-Suhr was on friendly terms with Peter Rühmkorf, who encouraged her to publish her texts. Rühmkorf wrote about her poems: “… that one lacks quick analogies seems to me almost the best sign.” In 2020, she received the Else Lasker-Schüler Poetry Prize. At the LiZ she talks about Lasker-Schüler’s life and work and reads their poems as well as her own poems from several volumes.

Geertje Potash-Suhr was born in Prague in 1943 and grew up in northern Germany. She studied German, Romance languages and literature, and psychology; in 1980 she received her doctorate from the University of Illinois with a dissertation on The Transformations of the Image of Women in the Poetry of Heinrich Heine. She has written for anthologies and journals since the 1980s. Most recently, her poetry collection Immer rein ins Herz mit der Federwas published in 2018.
