Guy Ziv

During his decades-long political career, Israeli President Benjamin Netanyahu has carefully cultivated an image as “Mr. Security”, which is well received by large sections of the Israeli public. However, the Israel Security Agency is questioning Netanyahu’s approach to national security. Since he took office, there have been unprecedented civil-military tensions. Former generals and heads of the Mossad and Shin Bet publicly reject his policies. Based on interviews with dozens of high-ranking former members of the Israeli security apparatus, Guy Ziv sheds light on the mistrust and fierce disagreements between Netanyahu and his generals and explains why the Israeli population has so far ignored the collective criticism.

Guy Ziv is Professor of Foreign Policy and Global Security at the School of International Service (SIS) at American University. He has served as an advisor to the U.S. Capitol and has been involved with non-profit organizations promoting the Israeli-Palestinian peace process.
