Wharf Ambos

Kai Ambos understands Nazi criminal law as a racist, nationalist and totalitarian continuation of the authoritarian and anti-liberal tendencies of German criminal law at the turn of the century and during the Weimar Republic. Nazi criminal law – one of the author’s core theses – neither came out of nowhere nor completely disappeared after 1945, which has led seamlessly to today’s attempt to reconstruct the identity of this Germanic myth through the political movement called “New Rights”.

Kai Ambos is Professor of Criminal and Criminal Procedure Law, Comparative Law, International Criminal Law and International Law at the University of Göttingen. Since April 2018 he has been Managing Director of the Institute of Criminal Science and Judge at the Kosovo Special Tribunal.
