  • Deception of the supermarkets
  • Geist Heidelberg, Lecture

We all go to the supermarket. But do we really know what we buy every day? Incomprehensible ingredient lists, opaque quality promises and a lack of information leave us as customers in the dark about the actual ingredients. “It is not the consumers who determine the range and quality of food by shopping in the supermarket. It is the legal rules and regulations that undermine consumer sovereignty and control the food market,” says environmentalist Thilo Bode.

Thilo Bode, born in 1947, studied sociology and economics in Munich and Regensburg. The former managing director of Greenpeace Germany and Greenpeace International founded the consumer rights organization foodwatch to document deception and health hazards in the food market and uncover weaknesses in legislation.
