The Great Nowitzki

  • The extraordinary life of the great German sportsman
  • Thomas Pletzinger & André Voigt
  • In dialogue

Dirk Nowitzki is a legend, he has fundamentally revolutionized basketball. No German sportsman has had a more profound influence on his sport. He is a global superstar – as a human being he is both approachable and yet difficult to grasp.
Thomas Pletzinger met and accompanied him again and again over many years, became part of Nowitzki’s cosmos. The author presents the resulting biography at the DAI together with former basketball professional André Voigt. It is a rousing, personal and precise look at the unseen world beyond the headlights, between airports, dusty gymnasiums and Nowitzki’s house in Dallas.

Thomas Pletzinger, who also works as a journalist and translator, lives in Berlin. He is the author of Funeral of a Dog (2008) and Gentlemen, we live on the edge (2012).

André Voigt played as a basketball player for VfL Wolfsburg and the Köln 99ers, worked as a coach for many years and is now editor-in-chief of the basketball magazine FIVE.
