  • Impact on the information technology forces of the Bundeswehr
  • Lecture

In recent decades, the Bundeswehr has mainly been involved in international crisis management (e.g. the Afghanistan mission), but since Russia’s invasion of Crimea in 2014 and the subsequent full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the defense of Germany and its NATO partners has once again become its core task. The Bundeswehr is repositioning itself for the return to national and alliance defense – especially in information technology. This is because digitalization has also become a key factor in military thinking and action. Stefan Eisinger explains how information technology is changing military operations and what steps the Bundeswehr is taking to be prepared for future cyberattacks.

Lieutenant Colonel Stefan Eisinger joined the Bundeswehr air force in 1998 and has since taken part in numerous missions abroad in Afghanistan and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Since 2022, he has been the commander of Information Technology Battalion 293 in Murnau, which uses its technologies, forces and expert knowledge to provide the Bundeswehr with information in theaters of operations.
