No Weapons in the Restaurant!
- Recipes for Peace - Food is Politics
- David Höner
- Geist Heidelberg, In dialogue
With war and crime, social structures break down – the affected population loses safe places to gather. It is precisely here that people are particularly dependent on common ground in order to achieve peace.
Cuisine Sans Frontières starts here: Armed only with the Kochl<öffel and with a lot of experience in mediating in explosive conflicts, between drug cartels and heavily armed tribes of people, recipes for peace are created here. Few things can unite as much as sharing a meal, literally coming together at the same table.
David Höner, born in Switzerland in 1955, is a cook, journalist and writer. In 2005, he founded the internationally committed aid organization Cuisine Sans Frontières, for which he works in Quito, Ecuador. In 2019, his book Kochen ist Politik (Cooking is Politics) was published, and in 2021 his culinary manifesto Köche, hört die Signale! (Cooks, Hear the Signals!).
