Despite failing to combat the Corona pandemic, Donald Trump received over 74 million votes, more than any other Republican candidate before. The talk will illuminate how Trump managed to forge a coalition of Republican primary voters and voters* receptive to his populist and conspiracy-theory rhetoric. Trump lost the election, but his strategy will certainly be copied by other candidates in the future.
Michael Butter is professor of American literary and cultural history at the University of Tübingen and coordinates a research network for the comparative analysis of conspiracy theories (COST).
