The US election year 2024: Donald Trump is once again challenging the Democrats for the presidency as the Republican candidate. After his defeat in 2020, it is possible that Trump will win the election this time – and even in the event of another defeat, it is not certain whether Trump will even recognize the election result. In any case, the outcome of the election will have direct consequences for international dynamics and the distribution of power. How will the world order shift after the US elections? What options will remain for ‘the West’ to deal confidently with the new US administration in times of crisis? Contemporary historian Herfried Münkler analyzes the result of the presidential election and explains how the world will change afterwards.

Herfried Münkler is Professor Emeritus of Political Science at Humboldt University in Berlin and one of Germany’s most renowned political scientists. He has received numerous awards for his work. Many of his books are considered standard works and were on the SPIEGEL bestseller list for months.
