director: Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau, Germany 1926, 116 min, drama

Musical accompaniment: Sedaa (traditional Mongolian music)

When the movie premiered on October 14, 1926 Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau stood on the height of his career: With Nosferatu he already succeeded one of the most important movies of the silent movie era in 1922. Three years later Der letzte Mann (1924) founded Murnau’s international career.

But before Murnau finally moved to Hollywood he shot his last movie in Germany – Faust with Emil Jannings as leading actor. In the other leading roles he cast the Swedish theater star Gösta Ekman as Faust as well as the at this time still unknown Camilla Horn as Gretchen.
