Armin Thurnher

Much of what was once taken for granted as part of democracy seems to have been abolished. We no longer know what to believe to be true. The false glamor of conservative hopeful Sebastian Kurz, for example, quickly dissolved in a cloud of scandals, corruption and dubious entourage. But while the multiple crises completely unsettle the public, Kurz effortlessly finds a connection with Donald Trump’s supporters, who would prefer to throw our political system overboard immediately. In his new book, Armin Thurnher probes the situation and shows that, as always, the great end of the world is holding its little dress rehearsal in Austria.

Armin Thurnher is co-founder, publisher and editor-in-chief of the Viennese city newspaper Falter. He has received many awards, including the Austrian Book Trade Prize for Tolerance and the Otto Brenner Prize for his commitment to a social Europe.
