A. L. Kennedy

A dejavu of literature! The Scottish author A.L. Kennedy took the snake of Saint-Exupérys’ The Little Prince and put it into her own story.

In a fairy-tale style, she narrates the friendship of the girl Mary and the snake Lamno. The world in which Lamno guards Mary for all her life is not a peaceful one: some people leave their homes and wander off. Others become rivals of Lamno and compete with the post-paradisiac snake, who works as a death messenger by night. In the end, Mary is white haired and Lamno has learned about love.

A.L. Kennedy herself can get snarky when criticizing political events, for example Britains’ involvement in the war in Iraq a few years ago or the present-time issue of Brexit. In 2016, Kennedy – who, in addition, has a talent for stand-up-comedy – was awarded the Heinrich-Heine-Preis.
