“Weaves notes into each other like threads of silk” – this is how the young pianist Tsuzumi Namikawa’s playing was described in the Braunschweiger Zeitung. Born in 1997 in Asahikawa, Japan, she received her first piano lessons at the age of five. At the age of nine, Tsuzumi moved to Germany with her family and received piano lessons from Wolfgang Zill. She is currently studying for a master’s degree at the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media and is spending a semester abroad in Paris at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse.
Tsuzumi has won several prizes at international competitions, including the 13th International Fryderyk Chopin Competition in Marienbad and the International Piano Prize Napolinova in Naples. Concerts have taken her beyond the borders of Germany to France, the Czech Republic, Finland, the Netherlands and her native Japan.
At the DAI, Tsuzumi Namikawa will play works by Claude Debussy and Maurice Ravel.
