Center-right parties are under political pressure. Should they open up to progressive urban milieus? Or should they sharpen their conservative profile? While Angela Merkel stands for the one model, politicians like Donald Trump or Sebastian Kurz represent the other. They are representatives of a radicalized conservatism. To mobilize their supporters, they repeatedly resort to the methods of radical right-wing movements and organizations. How extreme are conservatives today? What are the consequences for democracy?
Austrian political scientist Natascha Strobl is an expert on the New Right, right-wing extremism and the Identitarian movement.
