Musical Sunday

  • Concert, Literature

In the male-dominated music business, female composers were long regarded as marginal phenomena that were hardly to be taken seriously, including Fanny Hensel, Felix Mendelssohn’s sister. She was equally talented as a composer and pianist, but despite her outstanding talent, she was forbidden to pursue music as a career. Most of her more than 450 works are still awaiting rediscovery, including the Cantata for the Dead of the Cholera Epidemic, written in 1831.

Timo Jouko Herrmann and Marcus Imbsweiler are two enthusiasts who have their very own linguistic approach to music.
Imbsweiler has previously published novels and stories about composers from Haydn to Shostakovich.
Herrmann is guest conductor of the Heidelberg Symphony Orchestra; his rediscovery of the song of joy Per la ricuperata salute di Ofelia, composed by Salieri, Mozart and Cornetti, made him famous worldwide.
