Being and quarrel?

For some years now, and especially in the current pandemic, philosophy as a scientific discipline has been experiencing a revaluation: it is believed to offer social orientation and sometimes also to provide fruitful disorientation.

Rarely is the possible social contribution of philosophy related to the strengthening of the ability to deal with conflict. This is essential for democratic communities and their members.
For philosophy, proving itself in practice therefore also always means: helping people to see the world from other perspectives, to learn that one does not live in it alone with like-minded people, and to find ways of dealing with it.

Prof. Dr. Marie-Luisa Frick is a habilitated philosopher and works as an associate professor at the Institute of Philosophy at the University of Innsbruck. She is the author of numerous publications on the philosophy of law, political philosophy, ethics and philosophy of religion.
