This evening, the Italian author Michela Murgia reads from her latest works.
Michela Murgia, born in 1972 in Cabras, is an advocate of the Sardinian nouvelle vague, that is, new literature from Sardinia. She has studied Theology, taught Religion and also spent a period working in a call center. It was in fact her experiences in the call centre which inspired her first book, “Camilla in Callcenterland”.
Murgia’s first novel, “Accabadora” (2009) won a number of prizes. The book is set in the fifties in Sardinia and thematises issues surrounding euthanasia and adoption. Having spent a period living in Milan, Murgia has now moved back to Sardinia. Her latest book, “Elf Wege über eine Insel – Sardische Notizen” was published in 2012.
Michela Murgia is one of the “interns” of the project, “Research as Religion?” as part of which ten international authors are currently completing an, “internship” at academic institutions in Heidelberg and then write a literary piece about their experience. The project is funded by the regional Kulturstiftung.
