What’s going on in world politics right now? Right-wing populists undermine the separation of powers, separatists endanger the EU, Donald Trump divides the USA and distances himself from Europe, migration movements seem inevitable. Is it a cry for help from people for safety in times of change?
Vittorio Hösle explains which changes favour the rise of the right-wing populists, which undesirable developments decompose liberalism and how the self-destruction of the West affects a geopolitical environment. He links Hegel’s historical philosophy of progress with Spengler’s theory of decline.
Vittorio Hösle, born 1960, has been Professor of Philosophy at the University of Notre Dame, Indiana/USA since 1999. Most recently he published Kritik der verstehenden Vernunft: Eine Grundlegung der Geisteswissenschaften (2018).
