The 300th anniversary of Immanuel Kant, the father of the Enlightenment, provides an opportunity to take stock: what values guide us in the 21st century? The current technological and scientific revolution is rapidly changing our knowledge and thinking and is opening a new chapter in the history of philosophy and humanity. Is this turnaround so comprehensive that it will become a ‘new enlightenment’? And what role can the humanities play in shaping our common future in this new age?
Philosopher Markus Gabriel poses these fundamental questions and locates the answers in a new understanding of the humanities that align their thinking and imagination with criteria for a future worth living. These humanities place themselves at the service of all life on our planet and are thus in a position to bring newly formulated, binding values into society and to resolutely oppose the destruction of our environment.

Prof. Dr. Markus Gabriel is a German philosopher and author. In addition to specialist literature, he publishes popular science books, including Zwischen Gut und Böse: Philosophie der radikalen Mitte (2021) together with Gert Scobel.
