Mikhail Shishkin

Mikhail Shishkin has clear words when it comes to analyzing contemporary Russian society. His compatriots, he says, are not a nation of victims. Too many support the Russian war of aggression and thus become war criminals themselves. He says, “Russia has a future only if Ukraine wins this war and there is national recognition of guilt in my country.” At the DAI, he reads from his texts, speaks about the current political situation and discusses with the audience.

Mikhail Shishkin is one of the most celebrated contemporary Russian authors. He was born in Moscow in 1961, studied linguistics and has lived in Switzerland since 1995. Winner of many awards, he is, among other things, the only author to have received all three of Russia’s major literary prizes. In 2000 he received the Russian Booker Prize for the best Russian novel of the year: The Conquest of Ismail.
