- Bettina Kaibach, Servet Akgöbek & Urs Heftrich
Director: Nuri Bilge Ceylan, Turkey/Germany/France 2014, 187 min.
Introduction: Dr Bettina Kaibach, Servet Akgöbek, Professor Urs Heftrich
The former actor Aydin runs a hotel in the imposing Cappadocia Mountains, where he and his much younger wife live with his recently divorced sister. Whilst snow covers the land outside, the hotel becomes the backdrop for Aydin’s fraught confrontations with the people around him.
Winner of the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 2014, this film combines breath-taking images of an archaic landscape with an intimate story about love and power, society and morals. The precise dialogues give those people living on the edge of society a voice and delve deep into the heart of their communities.
