We hope to be able to make up for the Volcano Day as soon as possible. Worldwide there are about 1500 active volcanoes on land and very many – some still unknown – under water. They are fascinating and a bit scary, because a volcano that is not spitting fire is not necessarily extinct forever… But how does a volcano actually work? What makes a volcano erupt? How are they monitored? Our experts will take you and your family on an exciting journey into the world of volcanoes and their mysteries! Program: Lecture and experiments with volcanologist Axel Schmitt, University of Heidelberg, and students Hands-on stations “Vesuvius and Pompeii” with archaeologist Marte Zepernick, Badisches Landesmuseum Karlsruhe, Germany DIY fun: Lava slime to make yourself Exhibition “Volcanoes of the World” and exciting quiz Crafts and games for the little ones Snacks and drinks Many of the program items on offer are only suitable for children aged 6 and over.
