Worldwide there are about 1500 active volcanoes on land and very many – some still unknown – under water. They are fascinating and a bit scary, because a volcano that is not spitting fire is not necessarily extinct forever…
But how does a volcano actually work? What makes a volcano erupt? How are they monitored?
Our experts will take you and your family on an exciting journey into the world of volcanoes and their mysteries!

- Lecture and experiments with volcanologist Axel Schmitt, University of Heidelberg, and students
- Hands-on stations “Vesuvius and Pompeii” with archaeologist Marte Zepernick, Badisches Landesmuseum Karlsruhe, Germany
- DIY fun: Lava slime to make yourself
- Exhibition “Volcanoes of the World” and exciting quiz
- Crafts and games for the little ones
- Snacks and drinks
Many of the program items on offer are only suitable for children aged 6 and over. Admission is free.
