Mother mutant Wed, 10th November 2021, 8:00 pm The driving force of evolution? Geist Heidelberg, In dialogue Mutants and mutation have been discredited by the pandemic: Fear of evolutionary aberrations and viruses dominates the discourse. It seems to have been forgotten that mutation is an essential component and driving force of evolution. Who is the “mother of all species”? Is it perhaps the guarantor of biodiversity despite climate change and species extinction? What are important parallels and differences in the mutation of diseases, humans and animals? Are there jumps or extremes that ensure survival, or do they threaten life, at least of certain species? And can we control mutation and evolution? With: Prof. Dr. Richard Neher, biophysicist and research group leader at the Biozentrum of the University of Basel.
