Gonzalo Rodríguez de Tejeda, originally from Spain, has made a fortune in art dealings. Now he’s spending his twilight years in Venice. But what is next? Should his conservative family, that has always had a problem with his more liberal lifestyle, really inherit his wealth? If not them, then who? Brunetti’s father-in-law is afraid something bad might happen to his friend Gonzalo. The Comissario is asked to help and nearly gets lost in the abyss of the human heart.
