The human brain is not simply a “learning apparatus”. In order to absorb knowledge, it must reduce and understand the complexity of the world. How complex we think, consciously and unconsciously, is always a way of dealing with a world that we cannot fully survey and never experience in all its knowledge. The almost unlimited availability of information and a global world hardly allow for simple explanations and solutions. In such a world, can brain research help to get a grip on process thinking and action? Can a philosophy of complexity support when we have to cope above all with the limits of our knowledge, our understanding?

In a dialogue, Henning Beck and Gert Scobel explore the question of how to understand the complexity of the world and take it more calmly.
