In the film Enemy Mine (1985), a soldier and an alien warrior become friends in the middle of their planet’s war. Beyond romantic science fiction, however, enemy images often cannot be overcome through cultural contact, but aim to dehumanize to destroy the “bad Jew”, the “infidels” or “world conspirators”.
What are the functions of enemy images? And how do they differ from stereotypes and satire?
