  • Symposium

Democracy thrives on debate.

Democracy means: peacefully settling differences of interest in a public debating space in order to find common social action.

But: How can we recognize our own cognitive and emotional limitations and prejudices? Why do we react so aggressively when our most natural prejudices are challenged? We are so conditioned that we tend to think of our habits as beliefs. Our mind produces “opinions” instinctively, as it were. In a sense, ideologies are the collective prejudices that make the status quo seem self-evident.

How can one now objectify one’s own interests? How do we gain a common communication basis for a democratic discussion based on arguments?

At this symposium you will have the opportunity to engage in an intensive exchange with Prof. Rainer Mausfeld and to discuss the topics of democracy, ideologies and ways of thinking in depth.
